Week Five: 12/5/11 – 12/9/11

Social Studies: Bill of Rights Quiz Next Wednesday/Thursday.

MONDAY: Set up committees for the “How Congress Works” role playing game.  Committee members earn extra points towards their Constitution quiz based on what place their committee comes in at the end of the game.  Play the first few rounds of the simulation.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

TUESDAY: Design strategies for your committee to successfully get its bills passed by both houses of Congress.  Play the last few rounds of the “How Congress Works” role playing game.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

WEDNESDAY: Finish playing “How Congress Works”.  Discuss the difficulties that we had in getting bills written and passed, and comparing how our simulation is similar and different to how Congress actually works.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

THURSDAY:  Preview 10 (ISN pp.162-163).  Discuss responses for Preview 10.  Introduce Chapter 10 “The Bill of Rights”.  Read 10.1 “Introduction”, and 10.2 “Creating the Bill of Rights” (GA pp.132-134).  Discuss the reasons behind the creation and adoption of the first ten amendments to the Constitution.

HOMEWORK: Read 10.3 – 10.6 (GA pp.135-142).  Complete Reading Notes 10 (ISN pp.64-67).

FRIDAY: Check in homework. Review and discuss Reading Notes 10.  Read through the Supreme Court Case “Tinker v. Des Moines”.  Decide how you would rule on this case, giving justification for your ruling.  Share and discuss each group’s decisions on this case.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

Science: Introductory Research and Initial Bibliography is due 12/16/11.

MONDAY: Collect Research Proposals for the Unit II Project.  Generate a list of elements and characteristics (prior knowledge).  Introduce Inquiry 21.1: Investigating and Classifying Elements.  Demonstrate how to test elements for magnetism, conductivity, and hardness.  Begin filling in Student Sheet 21.1 together.  Begin exploring elements and filling in table 1 of Student Sheet 21.1

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

TUESDAY: Continue exploring the elements around the room and filling in table 1 of Student Sheet 21.1.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

WEDNESDAY: Finish exploring the elements around the room and complete table 1 of Student Sheet 21.1. Work on researching your unit II project and conference about your project with Mr. Emmi.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

THURSDAY: Class time to research your Unit II Project.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

FRIDAY: Optional day to do test corrections from the Unit I test (each corrected answer = 0.5 points added to the score).  If not doing test corrections, students may work on their Unit II Project.

HOMEWORK: Introductory Research and Initial Bibliography are due at the start of class Monday.
