Week Nine: 10/29/18 – 11/2/18

This is the final week of the first marking period. Any missing work needs to be turned in by Friday in order to receive credit. If work is submitted on google classroom, you need to turn in a note or email Mr. Emmi (cemmi@birmingham.k12.mi.us) to let him know you have submitted something.

MONDAY: Conduct Activity 7.1 – Is Burning a Chemical Reaction? (pp.53-55). Test the properties of the substances before and after burning. Answer the Conclusion prompts on pp.54-55. 

HOMEWORK: Complete the Conclusion Questions for Activity 7.1 (pp.54-55).

TUESDAY: Wrap up for Lesson 7 with Driving Question Notes, discussion, and Scientific Principle Notes. Conduct Reading 7.1 – Is Burning  Chemical Reaction? (pp.56-59). Create and evaluate models of the chemical reaction using marshmallows. 

HOMEWORK: Read and complete the responses for Reading 5.1 (pp.41-43).

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: No class Wednesday (Halloween : ). Thursday’s class will be a review and study class period as well as time to go through powerschool and make up any missing work before the end of the quarter.

HOMEWORK: Read and complete the responses for Reading 5.1 (pp.41-43).

FRIDAY: Check in and review answers to Reading 7.1. Conduct and discuss Reading 8.1 – Why is the Stature of Liberty Green? (pp.63-64). Introduce and set up our experiment for Activity 8.1 – How Can I Investigate Acid Rain in my classroom? (pp.61-62). Make predictions about what will happen to our copper squares.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.


Social Studies

Chapter 3 Assessment = Monday 11/5/18

MONDAY: Play Rounds 4-5 of the “Where In Canada Game”. Read and discuss 3.6 – 3.7 (GA pp.59-61) and complete the sections for Buildings and Economic Activity in the ISN (ISN pp.33-34). Return and review the Canada/US Mapping Lab Assessments and offer corrections opportunity. Corrections must be done on the test itself using a different color pen or pencil.

HOMEWORK: Test corrections (optional)

TUESDAY: Collect test corrections for the Canada/US Mapping Lab Assessment. Create game cards for the Where Do I Live? game. Analyze a map of global ecumenes. Read and discuss “Global Connections” (GA pp.62-63).

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: No class Wednesday (Halloween : ). Thursday’s class will be a review and study class period as well as time to go through powerschool and make up any missing work before the end of the quarter. We will also be vetting the World Leaders Cards to determine which versions will go to print.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.

FRIDAY: Chapter 3 Practice Quiz. Play Settlement Patterns and Ways of Life in Canada Kahoot review game.

HOMEWORK: Nothing.
